1. wander : 동사로서 '걸어다니다', '배회하다'

의 뜻

① After several attacks, the villagers no longer allowed their cattle to wander far and at night they were securely locked into their barns. (2006 수능 35번)(몇 번의 공격 후에, 마을 사람들은 더 이상 그들의 소 떼들을 멀리 돌아다니지 않게 했고, 밤에 그들은 외양간에 안전하게 가두어졌다.)

② Before he closed his tired eyes, he let them wander around his old small room. (2005 수능 44번)(그가 피곤한 눈을 감기 전에, 그는 눈으로 그의 오랜 작은 방 주위를 둘러보았다.)

2. wonder : 동사로서 '∼이 아닐까 생각하다',

'의아해하다'의 뜻

① I wonder how many people give up just when success is almost within reach. (2006 수능 21번)(나는 성공이 거의 손에 닿을 수 있는 곳에 있을 때 얼마나 많은 사람들이 포기를 하는지 궁금하다.)

② I wonder if you've ever regretted becoming a diver.(2002 수능 21번)(나는 당신이 다이빙 선수가 된 것에 후회해본 적이 있는지 없는지 궁금합니다.)



■ inquire / require



1. inquire : 동사로서 '묻다', '문의하다'의 뜻

① "How much is a dish of plain ice cream" he inquired. (2008 수능 30번)("보통 아이스크림은 얼마예요?" 라고 그가 물었다.)

② The soldier noticed my father's tears right away and inquired about them. (2007 3월 서울시 46번)(그 군인이 즉시 나의 아버지의 눈물을 보았고 그것에 대해 물었다.)

2. require : 동사로서 '요구하다', '필요로 하다'

의 뜻

① Preparation took years, since candidates were required to know thousands of logographs merely to read the classics. (1997 수능 47번)(준비에만 수년이 걸렸는데, 왜냐하면 지원자들이 단지 고전을 읽기 위해 수천 개의 한자를 아는 것이 요구되어졌기 때문이었다.)
