# adapt / adopt

1. adapt : 동사로서 '적응시키다', '개작하다'의 뜻



① Like all other industries, the rose business must adapt to changing conditions in the marketplace. (2005 수능 23번)(모든 다른 산업들과 같이, 장미꽃 사업도 시장의 변화하는 상황에 적응해야 한다.)

② The farmer changes the cow's food slowly so that the cow can adapt to the new food. (2000 수능 50번) (농부는 소가 새로운 먹이에 적응할 수 있도록 소의 먹이를 천천히 바꾼다.)



2. adopt : 동사로서 '채용(채택)하다', '양자(양녀)로 삼다'의 뜻



① The modern moccasin derives from the original shoes adopted in cold climates by races such as Eskimos and Siberians. (2007 수능 40번) (현대의 moccasin이라는 신발은 에스키모와 시베리아인과 같은 종족들이 추운 기후에서 사용했던 최초의 신발에서부터 유래된 것이다.)



# assist / resist

1. assist : 동사로서 '돕다', '원조하다'의 뜻

① I have been asked to assist in creating a committee to improve the Sunshine Charity. (2005 수능 24번)(나는 'Sunshine Charity' 자선단체를 발전시키기 위한 위원회를 만드는 것을 도와달라는 요청을 받아왔다.)

② Color coding by musical genre further assists in the choice of purchase.(1998 수능 31번) (더군다나 음악 장르별로 코드화한 색깔은 구매 선택 시에 도움이 된다.)



2. resist : 동사로서 '저항하다', '반항하다'의 뜻

① There are other diseases that our bodies cannot successfully resist on their own. (2005 수능 41번) (우리의 몸이 스스로 성공적으로 저항할 수 없는 다른 질병들도 있다.)
