To Make Movie Based on Sea and CEO

A series entitled ‘Sea & CEO’ is currently issued on the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries page of the Busan Ilbo every Friday and will be made into a movie based on the characters.
Gwak Kyung Taek, famous for directing the movie ‘Friends’, will direct the film and it gains some interest that he saw the ‘Sea & CEO’ series and personally picked the characters for the movie.
“I wanted to look for a different CEO compared to any other typical representatives at enterprises in general movies. In the end, I have turned to find a main character CEO who works at a maritime industry in the Busan region – my hometown.”
Gwak visited his home during the New Year’s holiday period last week and decided to make this movie after checking all the stories of the series published in reverse order.
Since the mega-hit of ‘Friends’, his movies ‘Champion’, ‘Mutt Boy’ and ‘Typhoon’ drew less attraction at the box office. He was concerned about his next film and holds out a secret card of a story towards ‘in a way of loving the hometown’.
“’Friends was a friendship story of the Busan style, and this movie is rather crude and rough, but I will picture a beautiful story of Busan people’s typical love in film noir.”
To decide on the main characters in the movie, which presents the loves of a young man and woman whose lives are set on the maritime industries in the Busan region, Gwak visited the maritime CEO who became the model for the ‘Sea & CEO’ series in Busan on February 26 and collected data for the movie.
Through around three hours of research, Gwak, a Busan native, noticed himself finding unknown facts about maritime affairs for some time and said, “I am sure about confirming characters just right for this film,” showing great anticipation. If it’s fast enough, filming will start from April and presented around October. Gwak has Jang Dong Gun as the main male personality, who has worked with him in other movies, and Kim A Joong in mind, a recently rising movie star as the female character.
