Increasing Campaign Feud Between Hillary Clinton and
Barack Obama

Campaign feuding has been increasing over the nomination for the US presidential election between Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Barack Obama. Both sides are directly exposing their uncomfortable emotions.

This feud was triggered by chief Hollywood fundraiser David Geffen¡¯s critical remarks toward Hillary Clinton. In his interview with a columnist from the New York Times, Geffen denounced Clinton for not apologizing about her position on the Iraq war in 2002, openly criticizing her vote for the war.

Geffen said, ¡°It is not hard to say ¡®I made a mistake¡¯, but some people cannot say so. It is a common attitude of Hillary Clinton.¡± Geffen hosted a fundraising party for Obama and has also fiercely criticized Bill Clinton, saying, ¡°I don't think that anybody believes that in the last six years, Bill Clinton has suddenly become a different person.¡±

Originally, Geffen helped former President Clinton raise funds in Hollywood, but their relationship broke up because Clinton gave Mark Rich a chance to wipe all criminal charges off of Rich's record with a presidential pardon before Clinton stepped down from the presidency. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton¡¯s campaign asked Obama to apologize for Geffen¡¯s remarks and to return $2,300 in contributions back to Geffen.

Regarding the demand from the Clinton campaign, an Obama campaign spokesman responded, ¡°We are not going to get in the middle of a feud between the Clintons and Geffen, who was once one of their biggest financial supporters.¡± Sen. Obama also said, ¡°I don¡¯t know why I have to make an apology for Geffen¡¯s comment.¡±

At an interview with ABC, Hillary Clinton dodged the question about whether Obama should apologize for Geffen¡¯s statement, saying, ¡°I want a positive campaign.¡±
