At Least 60 Killed in Pakistan-bound Train Blast in India

Two suitcase bombs exploded on board a Pakistan-bound Indian train killing at least 60 passengers and injuring at least 30 more.

According to a source, two coaches of the Samjhauta Express erupted in flames around 1:50 in the morning near the town of Panipat in India.

CNN-IBN and NDTV reported that the train bombs killed at least 60 passengers and injured at least 32.

A source said that police and firefighters are currently rescuing the injured, but the death toll will increase as time goes on.

Some passengers stated that there were a series of bomb blasts prior to fires. Police have found two unexploded suitcase bombs on the train. According to a source, electronic timers were packed inside with the bombs.

Police said, ¡°We have not found an explicit cause of the train blast, but it seems like an act of terrorism.¡±

India and Pakistan overcame 60 years of antagonism in January, 2004. As part of the peace process, the two countries started train service from New Delhi to Lahore right after their peace talks.
