President Roh Welcomes North Korean Decision
President Roh, currently visiting Spain, welcomed the agreement made at the six-party talks in Beijing yesterday after Foreign Minister Song Min-soon, accompanying the president, reported about the final joint statement.
It is said that Roh is supposed to unveil his stance on the six-party talks during his scheduled convention with overseas Koreans living in Madrid, Spain. Regarding Roh’s stance, Song said, “The president will offer his opinion during the meeting with Koreans in Madrid.”
The Foreign Minister quoted the president saying, “We have tried to put in our utmost effort in order to settle peace on the Korean peninsula, along with the US and China, by speeding up North Korea's nuclear dismantlement process. We will strengthen our relationship continuously for a more peaceful environment on the Korean peninsula.”
He also quoted, “The Seoul government will resume humanitarian aid to North Korea and take necessary measures to speed up the procedures of the North’s nuclear dismantlement and peace settlement on the peninsula.”
“The President also congratulated the South Korean delegations for playing a major role in drawing up the successful joint agreement during the talks,” Song said.
