Indianapolis Colts Beats Chicago Bears in Super Bowl

The Indianapolis Colts, with Peyton Manning named as a genius quarterback, beat the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI after 36 seasons. The Colts last won a Super Bowl in the 1971 season.

The Colts outlasted the Bears at a drenched Dolphin Stadium last night for their first NFL championship in 36 seasons.

This game allowed Tony Dungy (54) to become the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl. He kissed the victory trophy and said, “I dedicate the game to my guys.”

Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning won two MVPs in the 2003 and 2004 seasons and is called a genius quarterback, but he had jinxes in big games. Now he no longer has to face critics who don't think he could win a big-time football game. On that day fate was for Manning.

During the game, Manning exorcised his big-game demons by completing 25 of 38 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown in a steady rain at Dolphin Stadium in Florida.

The Indianapolis Colts slowly recovered from a dazzling 92-yard touchdown return on the game's opening kickoff by Bears rookie, Devin Hester. According Super Bowl history, it was the first time that the opening kickoff was returned for a score.
