E-shopping mall transactions hit record high, to over
13 trillion won

Online shopping transactions reached a record high last year, amounting to over 13 trillion won.
According to the Korean National Statistical Office (KNSO), the volume of e-shopping transactions jumped to over 13 trillion won, up 26.1% over last year.
The KNSO says that online shopping transactions have grown year after year in Korea. Statistics released by the KNSO show that e-shoppers spent over three trillion won in 2001; over six trillion won in 2002; over seven trillion won in 2003; seven trillion won in 2004; and ten trillion won in 2005.
According to the report, that categorized items by volume of e-shopping transactions, clothing and fashion goods were the most popular, accounting for over two trillion won (17.6% of all purchases), followed by travel and reservation services (15.0%), home appliances, electronics, communication equipment (1.9%), and living supplies and automobile items (9.7%).
It also says that the total of e-shopping transactions amounted to over 1.2 trillion won just in December 2006, up 14.9% over the same month last year. The volume of transactions in the e-shopping market hit a record high.
The report says that currently 4,531 e-shopping companies are conducting online business, up 4% over last year.
