Maternal affection hotter than flames...Mother helps son
escape fire

A heartbreaking accident occurred when a fire broke out in a house where a mother, who was in her 80s, desperately woke up her sleeping son to help him escape the flames. Ironically, his mother could not escape the horror in time and it led to the tragic death of an elderly mother.

At approximately 2 p.m. on February 3, Kim (85) was taking a nap when she saw flames in a small second floor bedroom of her house in Busan, Sooyoung, Mangmi. She desperately woke her son Lee (58), who was also taking an afternoon nap in a different bedroom, to allow him to escape the catastrophe.

Lee woke up when he heard his mother, but had to flee the house without being able to stop the fire from spreading. Lee, who thought his mother had left the house before he did, searched for her when he came outside, but when he did not find any sign of her he became afraid. After realizing that his mother was still inside the house, he tried to enter the house, but by then flames had already spread throughout the structure and he had to stand in front of the door in agony.

The fire was extinguished within ten minutes after firefighters arrived at the scene, but his mother was found lifeless in a small bedroom. Police are assuming that Kim probably when back into her room to bring out her valuables after waking her son and died of suffocation from smoke when the flames spread throughout the whole house.
