Increase of French Population

The National Statistical Office of France (INSEE) announced on January 16 that France seems to have the highest birth rate in Europe.
The INSEE stated the birth ratio from last year at an announcement of population statistics. They say that women give birth to two babies and though it is not official yet, there is a high possibility of France topping the birth rate in Europe.
The birth ratio of Ireland in 2005 was the highest in Europe at 1.99 babies and France was at 1.94 babies. The birth ratio for Ireland in 2006 has not been collected yet.
The statistical office reports 830,900 children were born last year. Compared to 2005, it increased 2.9 percent and a two percent rise in the birth rate is the highest in about thirty years.
The increase in the French birth rate is all due to an extensive policy of delivery recommendations that the French government has been consistently strengthening.
Public education up to college is free and some three percent of GDP supports the family policy.
When a woman gets pregnant, she is paid a special bonus once and if she takes maternity leave she receives a maximum of approximately 600,000 won for three years. There are allowances for having over two children, single parental bonuses and new semester bonuses.
Starting from July last year, parents who take a year of non-paid holiday after having a third child receive a subsidy of 900,000 won every month, after the delivery policy became intensive,
After school, children can be looked after by schools and various other facilities, so the system takes some burden off the parents¡¯ chest.
In addition, the INSEE stated that the national population reached 63,400,000 as of January 1, which is 400,000 greater than the previous year.
From 2005 to 2006, the expected life span for a male rose from 76.7 to 77.1 years and for a woman from 83.8 to 84 years.
The INSEE also reported that the number of homeless people rose to 14,600.
