Kidnapped Koreans in Nigeria are Safe

Nine employees of Dae-woo Construction were abducted by an armed group in the southern area of Barelsa, Nigeria. Negotiations for releasing these people are in the middle of the process. Until now, in the morning of January 12 (Korean time), the employees are safe and the second round of negotiations will smoothly progress in the afternoon.
Korean government officials said at a morning briefing, ¡°Up until now, the Daewoo workers are in good condition and remain safe in a place that has a TV set and an electric fan. The government is still in contact with the kidnappers. There is something the group is requesting, but we are at a stage where we cannot say anything further.¡± The officials also stated, ¡°The government maintains contact with them, but I cannot report any advance in the negotiations till now.¡±
Persons at Daewoo Construction said, ¡°At the local time in the afternoon of January 11, employees of Daewoo in Nigeria met with the fully armed group and returned, delivering a condition for release to the main government. The only condition they ask cannot be disclosed for the sake of the abducted workers.¡±
After the abduction, the first round of negotiations for release of the employees was conducted in the afternoon of January 11. The kidnappers provided living goods including clothes and food. Vice Minister for Lagos Lee Jeom-soo and other personnel from the Korean government will keep in touch with officials in the Nigerian government and will move forward to solve the case as soon as possible.
