To Attract World Population to Busan

Businesses for expanding the infrastructure of the Busan region¡¯s culture and tourism will move ahead in earnest. Busan Metropolitan City decided this year¡¯s slogan to be ¡®Construct tourism and convention city, attracting citizens of the world¡¯ and showed positive signs towards building various facilities.

In addition, the city will launch a department to promote an exclusive tourism establishment by law within the first half of this year. The city plans to upgrade professionalism and efficiency at the exclusive foundation, concentrating on tourism promotion, marketing, festivals, attracting conventions and others. The city announced the following statements concerning the infrastructure expansion in tourism and convention categories.

¡â Busan headquarters of secondary image workshop - The workshop will be established in the Cineport complex, Centum City, Haeundae starting sometime in May and is schedule to complete the first phase by August next year. Some 32 billion won will be invested to build a facility having over 2,000 pyeong of land and a building with three stories above ground. Developing film and editing projection rooms will be located in the first phase. The headquarters are support facilities to provide all kinds of work after filming including developing and editing film, computer graphics, recoding and digital cinema.

¡â Busan image center (Dureraum) - An original work by an Austrian artist was selected through an international public competition in 2005, but construction expenses went far above what was expected in the beginning, so the business was postponed. Finishing reexamination service of propriety was set up by the planning budget department in August, design work will be finished during this year, construction will begin at the end of this year and they plan to complete it by 2010.

¡â Busan international school for foreigners - The point was made that a lack of a school for foreigners became a barrier for attracting investment. Starting at the end of this year in Il-gwang town, Ki-jang district, construction will begin on a school for foreigners that meets international standards. Basic planning and practical design will be underway this month and administrative procedures, including decisions on the city development facility, will be finished. The school will open early 2009 for 360 students.

¡â Ki-jang ceramic arts village - Many pottery workers were dragged to Japan from Jang-ahn town, Ki-jang district, where potters lived as groups, during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592. Now the place will turn into a ceramic town and will be developed as an experiential tourist village. Facilities to experience making traditional iron pots and pottery will be placed in the pottery town. A propriety test will be conducted until October and 36 billion won is going to be invested.

¡â Geom-kang well-being park - Reexamining the botanical garden and cable car inside Geom-kang Park in On-chon Dong, Dong-rae Gu, the area will become a downtown park. The entire park area will be designated as a tourist attraction in July and work will be completed by 2015.
