Busan and Gyeongnam Residents have Pessimistic Economic
Outlook for 2007

Residents in Busan and Gyeongnam are pessimistic about the domestic and household economies for 2007. 44.9% of respondents believe the economy will be sluggish this year and 37.9% responded it will be similar to 2006. Only 11.4% of the respondents were optimistic.

By age categories, 60.3% of respondents aged 19 to 29 and 47.1% of those in their 30s predicted that the domestic economy for 2007 would be similar to that of 2006, whereas, those in their 40s and 50s said that it will be worse. By region, 48.7% of Busan residents, 42.1% of Gyeongnam residents, and 40.0% of Ulsan City residents responded that it will be worse than 2006.

By political party, 24.2% of the respondents who are Uri Party supporters said it will improve, but only 8.9% of opposition GNP supporters agreed. However, only 24.0% of Uri supporters responded it would be worse, while 47.6% of GNP supporters said it would.

Interestingly, most people expect their household economy will be the same or better than 2006. 52.8% of all respondents said that their household economy will be similar to 2006, whereas only 29.9% said it will be worse. In particular, progressives are more optimistic than conservatives about the economic outlook for 2007.
