WiBro and DMB Rated World Class Technologies

It is reported that Korean wireless broadband technology (WiBro) and digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) are rated as world class technologies. This is according to a report entitled ¡®National Future Technology in 21 Areas¡¯ released by the Science and Technology Ministry and the Korean Institute of Science and Technology
The two institutes evaluated Korea's technology level compared to other nations in 21 areas. According to the findings, WiBro and DMB technology were zero of those of the advanced nations. Whereas, Korea¡¯s nuclear fusion technology was 73.7% of that of the number one advanced nation; cultural content technology (67.4%), ultra-computing technology (60.0%), regenerative medicine (67.2%), Nano technology (69.1%), and information and security technology (69.1%).
The report forecast that all Korean technologies lag behind three to five years to those of the top nations for the 21 areas. The report added that Korea ranked 64.7 percent to overall future technology; Japan (84%), China (52.8%), and the US (99.6%).
Experts forecast that the Korean technology level for 21 areas will reach at least 78% within five years. In particular, ecosystem preservation and restoration technology will reach 83.6% and information and security technology will reach 81.9%.
Based on the findings, the Science and Technology Ministry has designated 21 promising technologies that would contribute toward Korea becoming more affluent, healthier and more secure.
