Figure Skater Kim Yu Na Ranked Fifth in World

Korean figure skating star Kim Yu Na (16), a high school student, has jumped to fifth place in world rankings after winning first place at the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix Final for 2006-2007.

According to the ISU web site released after the Grand Prix Final, Kim jumped four spots with a total of 3,379 points in the latest world rankings, which is her best in senior world rankings.

At the Grand Prix second round, she won third place, but she won first place at the fourth round. According to a source, despite severe back pain, she took first place at the Grand Prix Final.

Russia's Irina Slutskaya remained atop the board with 3,930 points, despite her absence from the 2006-2007 ISU Grand Prix series. Asada Mao (Japan), who won second place at the Grand Prix Final, held onto second place with 3,555 points, followed closely by Suguri Fumie (Japan) with 3,477.

Surprisingly, Miki (Japan, 18) with 3,270 points was at sixth place in the world rankings followed by Suzuka (Japan), who won the gold medal at the Torino Winter Olympic Games in 2006. It shows that Japan is one of the strongest countries in figure skating.
