Comprehensive Conflict Within Uri Party

In the wake of President Roh¡¯s strong opposition to a Uri Party survey on its future, Roh supporters started criticizing the leadership of the party, targeting Chairman Kim Geun Tae. Analysts say that the sides have already split since the time Kim announced his plan to conduct the survey to determine his party¡¯s future.
Despite a fierce crossfire of criticism from staunch President Roh lawmakers, Uri Party leaders decided to push for the survey. However, facing strong resistance from Roh supporters, the leaders announced to defer the scheduled survey by the next Assembly session, confirming that the survey will be conducted anyhow before the session.
They planned to complete composing the questionnaire by last night and start polling today. Results of the survey will be presented to a general meeting of Uri lawmakers around mid-December along with a road map of the party's future
Party floor leader Kim Han Gill yesterday reiterated that President Roh should only concentrate on his job and not meddle in politics, saying, ¡°It is a good way to minimize his lame duck status,¡± stressing, ¡°It is not proper for President Roh to openly step into the fate of the party¡¯s future.¡±
