Republican control of Congress is in the balance today as voters cast their ballots across the nation. Democrats mining public discontent over President George W. Democratic leaders predicted they would recapture the House of Representatives for the first time since 1994, but needed to pull off a less likely clean sweep of battleground seats to seize the Senate. Washington Likely to Discuss Six-party Talks With Seoul,
Beijing and Tokyo

It is announced by the US State Department that two high level officials are scheduled to visit Japan, China, and Korea to discuss restoration of the six-party talks. It is unusual that two top officials will simultaneously visit northeast Asian countries prior to resuming the talks. Some analysts forecast that US is likely to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue as soon as possible, not letting it burden the US.

The State Department said that it hoped the resumption of nuclear talks would lead to a resolution of the nuclear issue, even though the UN sanctions on North Korea remain unresolved.

US President Bush stated that Washington plans to dispatch Nicholas and Robert of the State Department to the three countries to facilitate a cordial atmosphere for the six-party talks, leaving the UN sanctions on North Korea unresolved. He did not explain specific details about when and how to make the visits.

At a regular briefing, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said, ¡°US representatives will visit Japan on November 7 and 8, China on the 8th, and Korea on November 8 and 9.¡± He added, ¡°The two vice-Secretaries of State will exchange opinions with Japanese officials in Tokyo and visit the other nations. In particular, they are scheduled to meet Russian officials in Beijing. During their visit, they will meet the four other member countries of the talks.¡±
