The Korean Advertisers Association requested a survey by the
Speech and Information Research Institute at Seoul National
University.

The subscription rate for one newspaper in the Busan region is sixteen percent of households, several times ahead of the A newspaper (7.7%), followed by B (7.1%) and C (5.8%). In the Dae-gu region, Mae-il newspaper (12.1%) had a slight advantage over the A Ilbo (11.6%). Apart from Busan and Dae-gu, the big three newspaper companies topped the survey in all regions. The subscription rate of the Busan Ilbo in Busan was sixteen percent which made it the highest among sixteen surveyed cities. The A Ilbo reached 13.9% in the Incheon region and the third spot went to the B Ilbo with 13.7%.

Subscription rates for newspapers targeting the entire country, the A newspaper took the number one spot at 10.1 percent, then B (8.4%), Busan Ilbo and the D newspapers, D and E (1.4% each), E Ilbo and Sports G (1.1% each) and then it was H and I Ilbo (1.0%) that came in last. Some 34.8 percent of households read newspapers in Korea.

The subscription rate of households is a percentage which takes into consideration reading newspapers at home after paying a regular payment each month.
