New York Post Endorses Hillary

The New York Post, one of the major conservative daily newspapers, announced yesterday that it will endorse Democratic Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for re-election. In the editorials, it stated that her Republican challenger, John Spencer, is not a credible alternative.

The Post said that she has done such a good job these last six years that they believe she would do well to serve six years more. There are no other alternatives except for Hillary. The paper also said that America has to reelect Clinton as president in 2012. It implies that the Post will not support her as a presidential candidate in 2012.

It is unusual that a major conservative newspaper like the New York Post would endorse Hillary. It has several implications since the Post is one of the papers in the News Corporation, a global media conglomerate controlled by Rupert Murdoch

In particular, the Post opposed Hillary in 2000 when she announced her run for the senate, saying in the editorials, ¡°Give up your candidacy.¡± However, the Post seems to have been closer to Bill Clinton. Murdoch hosted a fund raising event for Hillary last July. Subsequently, he attended the Clinton Global Initiatives (CGI) that Clinton hosted and stated that he will donate five hundred thousand dollars for CGI.
