Korea will follow UN sanctions on North Korea

The South Korean government announced that it will follow UN sanctions on North Korea. According to a government source, Seoul will forbid persons or groups from North Korea to visit and stay in South Korea regardless of their purpose, provided that the UN Security Council designates specific target persons. Also, the government will block money transfers related to trade or investment between the two Koreas.
Seoul has unveiled its own measures to sanction North Korea in compliance with the UN resolution on the North¡¯s nuclear test. The Korean Unification Minister Lee Jong Seok stated that in a parliamentary audit by the National Assembly, saying, ¡°The government is now preparing measures that follow the contents of the UN sanctions.¡± The resolution was unanimously adopted by the U.N. Security Council after Pyeongyang conducted a nuclear test.
Regarding the specific directions of South Korean sanctions on North Korea, he said, ¡°With a principle of denuclearization on the Korean peninsula, the government will continuously force North Korea to give up of nuclear facilities and materials,¡± stressing, ¡°The government will try not to cause any military conflict on the Korean peninsula and the international community¡¯s sanctions to make the Korean peninsula unstable.
According to the report, South Korea is likely to prohibit the delivery, sales and transport of WMDs, conventional arms and luxury goods to North Korea. Seoul¡¯s inspections will also follow North Korean vessels entering or leaving South Korean ports.
Meanwhile, U.S. Forces Korea announced that General Burwell B. Bell, the commander of U.S. Forces Korea and also commander of the Combined Forces Command, will reveal his stance regarding the discussed topics at a Security Consultative Meeting.
