Local companies from Busan are to construct a new major housing area in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia. According to the companies and Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian government recently designated Busan-based company B.K.B (President Chung Si Woo) as the first construction company for the project. The staff of the company confirmed that it will participate in the project with other Busan-based companies such as architects and construction companies. The Mongolian government plans to construct the new housing in the Yarmag district of Ulaanbaatar.

As the first metropolitan city in Mongolia, the government has a blueprint to build 30,000 apartments by the year 2020, accommodating 120,000 citizens. A staff member from the city said, ¡°The main purposes of the new development are to prevent unlimited expansion of the capital city, to accommodate the population from foreign countries, to resolve the problem of the lack of business facilities, and to foster IT industrial complexes."

In 1999 the population of the capital city was only 650,000, but rapid increases have swollen the population to over 1,200,000 residents. Therefore, it is time for the government to deal with insufficient infrastructure and facilities. According to a source, B.K.B will manage the entire project and its partners will conduct their allotted parts: Hangaram for infrastructure, Gilpyong for design of special structures, and Sangji E&A for apartment blueprint design.

According to a source from B.K.B, by the year 2020, 500 million dollars will be invested in the project. It will complete the first stage of the project by early next year in which public facilities and 4,500 apartments for only public officials will be constructed. A source from the city said that Busan-based Hanjin Company is considering participating in the project. Busan Mayor Hur Nam Sik promised that he will support the project in which Busan local companies are now participating after touring the area in Ulaanbaatar.
