Narrow Employment Gate for Graduates

Major domestic companies plan to employ fewer numbers in the second half of this year. According to job portal site Recruit, 49.7% of 561 companies interviewed by Recruit responded they plan to recruit new employees in the second half.

This is a little lower compared to last year's 61.5%, down 11.8%. 20.2% of the interviewed companies have no plan to employ recruits, up 7.1% compared to the same quarter last year. Recruit analyzed that most companies still have strong onus on their employment.

It implies that there will be more fierce competition in the job market in the second half. In particular, the prospects of the job market will totally rely on 4.7% of the companies that have no plan to hire. Another portal recruiting site said new figures show competition in the job market might be at its peak during the second half of this year.

Different from general business sectors, there will be greater employment in the fields of automobiles, machinery, steel, shipbuilding, heavy industries, food and beverages, and financing. The survey shows that major companies will cover 83.5% of the Korean job market, excluding the public sectors, in the second half. It implies there is polarization even in the job market.
