Beware of Forged Bank Branches Abroad
Malice Internet sites called "phishing," which feign foreign branches of national banks, appear for the first time and people must beware of business relations.
‘Phishing’ is a compound word of Privacy and Fishing. It is a new type of financial trickery tempting Internet users to input personal information, including account numbers and social security numbers. It uses e-mail connected with a forged homepage after making a malice homepage which looks exactly the same as the homepage of a famous business.
According to bank authorities on August 25, as many as six Internet phishing sites have been found during a recent month under the feigned name of Industrial Bank branches of London.
Last year, forged sites modeled after national sites of some commercial banks were discovered, but this is the first time to find fake sites of foreign branches.
On July 29, the addresses of four phishing sites were detected: www.kdbuk.com, www.kd-buk.com,kd-b.com and k-d-b.com. More sites, www.kdbuk.net and kd-buk.net, were found on August 16. All of the addresses use English initials of the Industrial Bank, and ‘KDB’ and ‘UK’ are used to falsely represent England and the London branch of the bank.
However, it is confirmed that the London branch of Industrial Bank does not have its own Internet site.
Industrial Bank cancelled all the registrations after contacting Canada where the site address (URL) is registered against four phishing sites. They were detected on July 29, but the two sites that were discovered on August 16 have not yet been cancelled.
In the case of the recently discovered address, www.kdbuk.net, that imitates the site, www.kdb.hu, a Hungarian corporation site of Industrial Bank which is concerned about the possibility of other damages.
