US Sluggish Economic Growth
The outlook on US economic growth is a little negative. Economists forecast that exports from Korea to the US market will decrease as well, dependent on the US economy. They pointed out that the main factor affecting the sluggish economic growth in the US market is a downturn in the housing market.
The International Finance Center yesterday released a report titled ‘Slowdown of American Economic Growth and Outlook for Domestic Exports for Next Year.’ The report states that since the US economic growth will be sluggish in the second half this year, economic growth of China, Japan, and the EU region will also be sluggish, worrying, “Due to the slowdown of US economic growth, the export environment next year in Korea will be much worse than this year.”
The report warned that if the Chinese excessive economic boom does not cool down or if the export growth of China significantly decreases, it will greatly worsen the Korean export environment. Recently, major domestic analysts, including investment banks, institutions, and some universities, anticipated US economic growth will be down after May this year.
In particular, some major international investment banks, including Merrill Lynch, forecast the economic growth of the US next year will be lower than 2.5%; whereas, JP Morgan and Lehman Brothers have a view of 3.4% next year.
