Random Permission to Build Apartment Complexes near Busan North Port
A number of complaints were raised during a meeting between Busan City and the opposition Grand National Party. With regard to the redevelopment of Busan North Port, private construction companies are allowed to build apartment complexes within its boundaries, but it can have a negative effect on the environment. During the first meeting between Busan City and the GNP after the local elections in May, GNP lawmakers bitterly condemned Busan mayor Hur, urging a stop to development.
Kim Jung-hoon stated, “Everyone knows that Centum City has already been built as a residential area, very different from the original purpose when Busan first pledged to build Centum City as a prestigious business area.” He added, “It is sure that Busan North Port will follow the same course as Centum City if Busan permits construction companies to build apartment complexes in order to create taxes.”
Hur Tae-ryeol agreed with Kim’s assertion, saying, “Busan should strive to put its first priority on marketing in the situation that Busan New Port has not been activated yet, and worse is that the amount of freight entering Busan Port has decreased.”
He also pointed out, “Busan City promised to complete intersection roads around Gimhae Airport ahead of the Busan Asian Games, but it was done after the Game.” Park Seung-hwan condemned, “It is very necessary that when Busan City drives a housing-supply policy, the city should establish a synthetic plan in accordance with other district offices.”
Regarding the Capital Clustering Drive from the national political sector, Park Hyung-joon said, “It is true that Busan City has not yet even attempted to outline its development strategies, which are closely linked to its development. Also it is very good to compare the attempts of Seoul City and Gyeonggi Province which have been hectic to search for foreign investors.” An Kyong-ryul stated, “Busan City has to first set up an advisory committee to assist Busan’s sales marketing strategy by holding frequent meetings.”
