Cabbage Prices Triple

It is reported that heavy rainfall has caused vegetable prices, such as for cabbage and lettuce, to skyrocket. According to the Busan Agricultural Distributor, due to heavy rain in the nation, the amount of agricultural products to be distributed has been reduced 20~25%, causing some vegetable prices to triple. A staff member from the Distributor explains that prices of cabbage, lettuce, and Korean cabbage already rose before the heavy rain began.
Prices of cabbage native to Gangwon Province already doubled, selling at 20,000 won for an eight kilogram box. Also, the amounts of vegetables dealt with in the Distributor were reduced by a quarter. The amounts of Korean cabbage farmed in highland areas were also incredibly reduced, causing prices to soar. Staff said that the prices of lettuce and green hot pepper also doubled. Now the price of two kilograms of lettuce sells between 13,000 won and 14,500 won.
Kim Che-woo, auditor of the Busan Agricultural Distributor, said, ¡°Continuous rainfall has barred farmers from work, and results in insufficient amounts of vegetables, which triggered vegetable prices to rise. I think this phenomenon may continue.¡±
This also influences the prices in major discount markets and department stores. In the case of Busan Hanaro Club, cabbage is currently priced at 1,480 won each, which sold a week ago at 880 won. Lettuce is also priced at 25,500 won, previously priced at 17,000 won for four kilograms. Mega Mart also adjusted the price of lettuce to 2,500 won per bundle, previously sold at 1,000 won per bundle.
