New Maritime Industry Cultivation

The Institute of Maritime Cultural Studies, an extension of the Busan Ilbo, was opened yesterday with a goal of cultivating maritime industries including harbor physical distributing industries, maritime technology, and expanding other maritime cultures.

The opening ceremony was held on the seventh floor of its building at 9:30 a.m. where Busan Ilbo president Kim Jong-ryeol and other senior executives joined in honor of its inauguration.

The institute aims to play major roles in assisting the development of maritime industries, developing a wide range of maritime educational businesses and maritime contents. It is also anticipated that various oceanic events and maritime industry fairs, including scholastic conferences, will be hosted by the institute for further achievement of the fifth largest maritime nation.

The institute will also play a role in bridging the Marine Industry & Technology Organization (MITO) and Busan Ilbo in a number of areas. The organization firstly aims to contribute to developing Korean marine industries and fisheries, and enlarging citizens¡¯ understanding of marine culture. A source added that it will also develop human resources and strive to formulate networking systems in the nation.

The staff of the institute said that it will play a major role in activating Busan-centered maritime fisheries through organic cooperation with industrial, educational, and public sectors.
