The Korean Replace Cell Phones per 21 Months

A recent survey showed that, on average, Koreans substituted 3.5 units of their cell phone terminals every 21 months.
According to the report on Feb. 14, entitled ¡°Socio-cultural Understanding of Mobil Phone Consumption Style¡± conducted by KISDI (Korean Information Strategy Development Institute), Koreans substituted 3.5 units of their cell phone terminals every 21 months, which is the highest in the world. The reasons that Koreans replace their terminals are because of breaking down, discontent of design and function, and it was shown that they purchased them by considering prices, brands, supplementary functions, and design.
In regards to supplementary functions of cell phones, it was estimated that 75.4% of the cell phones have camera functions, MP3 functions (31.0%), DMB functions (6.2%). The report anticipated that over 90% of the cell phone would be combined with the camera functions, but due to the low interest in DMB phone by consumers, there would not be high demand for DMB phone in the market for a while.
The institute anticipated that the cell phone substitution duration would be longer as time goes on, and the consumption of used cell phone terminals would increase as well. The number of the cell phone terminals used in Korea was estimated at 16,000,000 units by the end of 2004, and the scale of the cell phone market amounted to 6 trillion won.
