12 won needed for a 10-won coin

Due to the soaring international costs of the raw materials, such as copper and zinc, used for minting a ten-won coin, the Bank of Korea is now in a dilemma.
Because of sudden price fluctuations on the international market, it¡¯s expected that the cost of minting a ten-won coin is exceeding its face value, dubbed as the MELTING POINT, thus pressuring the Bank of Korea. Whenever the phenomenon of the coin melting point happens, the Korean government tries to adjust the ratio in the mixture for making a coin, or to change its size so as to intercept misused cases.
According to a source from the Bank of Korea, the international trading price of the copper and zinc was at 12 won, higher than its face value of 10 won.
