Korean Number One Export Products Drops by 33%

According to KIEP, It is estimated that competition between Korea and China will be fierce in the overseas export market.
A report entitled ¡°Current Trends of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese Number 1 Export Products¡± issued by KIEP on November 3, shows that the number of Korean No. 1 export products has dropped from 94 products in 1994 to 64 products in 2004, a reduction of 33.3%.
The report shows that the number of Korean No. 1 export products in 1993 was 96 products, but was reduced to 64 by 1997. It was up to 70 products in 2002, whereas it decreased again to 64 products in 2004.
In particular, the report shows that the number of products that are ranked first place through third place has also decreased compared to 1993.
In the case of Japanese products, the same phenomenon has appeared. The number of Japanese No. 1 export products that reached 506 products in 1993, but fell to 296 products in 2004. However, Chinese No.1 products increased from 322 products in 1993 to 774 products in 2004.
The report analyzes that the decline of the number of Korean No. 1 export products doesn¡¯t mean the Korean economy has been failing, as it just reflects a decrease in Korean manufacturing competition
