Vegetable prices skyrocketing

It appears that in the wake of hygienic problems with Chinese-produced kimchi, the prices of other Korean vegetables, including Korean cabbage, are also soaring.

According to the Busan Agricultural Wholesale Market, due to Chinese kimchi the price of Korean cabbage is now at 916 won each, triple that of last year. It is estimated that the price of Korean radish will increase to 3,043 won for 4 kg, which has also tripled from 1,000 won each last year.

With regard to this phenomenon, it appears that sales of alternative vegetables are also soaring. In the case of Busan Hyundai Department Store, there have been increased sales of such things as Korean radishes, sweet cabbages and other radishes: up 20% compared to last year.

These phenomena are also happening at Geumjung and Haeundae E-mart stores.
