Microsoft may withdraw Windows business from Korea

With regard to an investigation being conducted by the Korean Fair Trade Commission, the US Dow Jones released on October 28 that Microsoft could withdraw its Windows business from the Korean market.

According to Dow Jones, Microsoft made a statement in the quarterly report submitted to the Securities Exchange Commission that the Korean Fair Trade Commission demands the removal of cords or to redesign a specialized Windows that is fit for the Korean market. An MS official added, ¡°It might be necessary for MS to withdraw Windows from the Korean market or to delay releasing new versions of Windows.

Recently, MS settled a lawsuit regarding the illegal business of selling Windows with a Media Player program, and then compensated Real Network with 760,000,000 dollars.

Yet, the Korean Fair Trade Commission has been investigating the irregular sales of MS in the Korean market, such as selling an MS operating system with a media player for Windows media and a messenger program for chatting.
