The 10th Pusan International Film Festival to Launch its 9-Day Schedule
The 10th installment of the Pusan International Film Festival will dash into its splendid opening ceremony for a 9-day schedule at the open-air theater in Soo-young Harbor in Busan on October 6th at 6 PM.

10th PIFF is one of the best film festivals in the world.

The 10th edition of the Pusan International Film Festival will begin in the afternoon today. From today to the 14th, for 9 days, "the sea of films" will overwhelm Busan. PIFF is one of the representative international events in Busan. It has accumulated a lot of experience and has become a famous film festival in Asia. Since the beginning of PIFF 10 years ago, it has become outwardly upgraded more than ever before.
The scale of this PIFF is the largest in history with a vast array of programs: 307 films from 73 countries will be shown. Among the films, 63 are world premiers. To celebrate the 10th anniversary, various events will be held in 14 fields. They have 10th anniversary academic contests, 10th anniversary exhibitions, movie-watching with directors and actors, open concerts, and audience cafes.
The success of PIFF shows the potential power of Busan citizens, and citizens may well take pride in it. As time goes by, their interest is increasing. Without an audience, festivals cannot succeed, no matter how good their contents are. Sometimes there is limited support from citizens.
For PIFF to improve further, it should prepare many things in addition to the events. When compared to other film festivals in the USA or Europe, PIFF has a somewhat low recognition value.
Film director Peter Greenaway notified officials that he could not take part in this year's PIFF. He was supposed to have his hand imprinted at an event.
This year, they should not mar the overall quality of PIFF with substandard production, such as captions, interpretation, and screen-projections. The quality and operation of these items were not satisfactory last year.
PIFF should be an international event beyond Asia. If they are merely satisfied with present practices of operation, without change, they cannot improve further. Authorities concerned with PIFF should keep on trying to improve the event so that the level of PIFF is up to that of Cannes, Berlin, and Venice.
