Where are we going?

While descending the North Gate of the Geum-jeong Mountains through the way of Hwa-myoeng Dong, you'll meet a sculpture of Buddha called Mah-ae-yeo-rae under a huge rock. Thousands of years ago stone cutters must have exerted themselves to the utmost to engrave thick lines, but, now, it¡¯s original features have been worn out from passing through the light and wind after all that time.

Present days seem to take so long to pass. Working during the day and reading at night, but there is still enough time before it is dark. Strange as it may sound, during the time of the past thousand years makes us feel it was a very short period.

With such a long time, people are continuously born and die and try to make sure of retaining their existence in history. How foolish a hope would it be to be confronted bu death without previous notice.... Nevertheless, I feel like I could hear those stone cutters¡¯ breaths while they were chiseling a statue out of rocks in this moment. I put my hands on the Buddha¡¯s hands, which are engraved on the rock. There¡¯s only a hot feeling of material that is heated by the sun. No sign of the ancient¡¯s breath who carved their desires on the granite. Where have they disappeared to? And where are we headed now?
