Consumer Boycott to spread against Homeplus markets

It seems that Busan civic groups will join consumers' boycott against Homeplus markets, which was triggered when Homeplus' Busan branches unexpectedly declared that they would discontinue purchasing local goods and dealing with local suppliers.

The Busan Jubu Club (Married Women's Club) as well as nineteen other Busan Women's NGO Associations announced on June 14 that they would lead a strong boycott movement against Homeplus markets. As the hot news has been bubbling up with enthusiasm, 42 other Busan civic groups and 63 economy-related associations also decided, on June 15, to join the boycott movement.

As a first step to support financially poor small and medium sized manufacturers, Busan's Mayor has summoned concerned Busan officials to make a vigorous objection to Homeplus markets, not following the contract between both parties. Unfortunately, despite these strong actions from the groups, Busan Homeplus markets have sneered at the soaring complaints. Due to these tangled circumstances between Homeplus and local suppliers, civic groups have planned to take increasing measures in their boycott against Homeplus markets.

"To keep Busan's pride from the English Homeplus market, we will implement a strong consumer boycott that will steamroll our unyielding will of iron until the time our demands are undertaken!" a civic group member said.
